Susquehanna Odyssey: A Journey Worthy of Remembrance A man recaptures his past by reflecting on the experience of his youth. In a series of short stories that mirror the events which took place in and around a small river town in rural Pennsylvania during the second half of the twentieth century, we see a boy become a man. Like a modern day Odysseus, the writer takes us through his military, educational and professional life while he searches for meaning in the life he lives. Growing up in a town along the Susquehanna under less than desirable conditions motivates a boy to challenge his surroundings and, in doing so, succeed in spite of the life into which he was born. We follow the writer who, as a boy, lives in a tar paper shack. We look in on him when, as a sixteen- year old, he begins his military service. We accompany him as he becomes a Marine and meets a President of the United States. We see him begin and finish university studies, and we realize that he never forgets his attachment to a river which runs through his hometown. Each short story in "Susquehanna..." evokes pathos, humor, determination and pride, and all the accounts in the book open a window of time past which portrays the hopes and aspirations of the common man.
