He went on to Merced College and then transferred to California State University Stanislaus. It was in college that he began to write poetry. He graduated in 1999 with a degree in Organizational Communications. After graduation, he decided to get into education, beginning as a substitute teacher. This gave him more time to pursue his writing, where he realized the healing power of being able to express his emotions through the written word.
