Historyczno-topograficzny atlas miast ?l?skich. Band/Tom 5. Buch, Softcover, The aim of the atlas, published by the Herder Institute together with Polish and Czech partners, is to present the topographic settlement development of 34 selected towns in the historical region of Silesia from the 19th to the 21st century. In addition to texts on the development of the respective town, the concept of the project also includes the editing of official topographical map sources and aerial photographic sources, some of which are unique, at a uniform scale of 1:25000, from the years around 1830, 1900, 1940, 1975 and 2000. Seit dem Mittelalter entwickelte sich Breslau aufgrund seiner günstigen Verkehrslage zu einem politischen, kulturellen und wirtschaftlichen Zentrum in Mitteleuropa. Das 19. Jahrhundert kennzeichneten rasante Entwicklungen. Der Ausbau der Vorstädte, die Anlage neuer Siedlungen, die Entstehung von Industriebetrieben und moderner Infrastruktur (Eisenbahnnetz, Oder-Häfen usw.) ließen Breslau zu einer Großstadt von europäischem Rang werden. Der Zweite Weltkrieg, insbesondere die Belagerung 1945, brachten Breslau schwere Zerstörungen. Der Wiederaufbau nach dem Krieg orientierte sich teilweise am historischen Vorbild, etwa in der Innenstadt, schlug aber auch eigene Wege sozialistischer Stadtplanung ein. Heute ist Breslau mit über 600 000 Einwohnern viertgrößte Stadt Polens und im Jahr 2016 neben San Sebastian Kulturhauptstadt Europas. Der Städteatlas Wroc?aw/Breslau erscheint in drei Versionen: deutsch, polnisch und englisch. Er präsentiert Pläne, Karten und Bilder zur Entwicklung der Stadt. Einige dieser Materialien werden im Atlasband erstmals veröffentlicht. Dazu gehören beispielsweise die Senkrechtluftaufnahmen der Deutschen Luftwaffe von 1944, in denen auch solche Details des Stadtgebiets sichtbar sind, die wegen militärischer Geheimhaltung in Stadtplänen nicht abgebildet wurden. Powojenna odbudowa, szczególnie w ?ródmie?ciu, opiera?a si? cz??ciowo na historycznych za?o?eniach, ale swoje pi?tno odcisn??o tak?e socjalistyczne planowanie. Dzi? Wroc?aw licz?cy ponad 600 000 mieszka?ców jest czwartym co do liczby ludno?ci miastem w Polsce. Na rok 2016 zosta? wraz z San Sebastian wybrany na Europejsk? Stolic? Kultury. Atlas miasta Wroc?awia / Breslau posiada trzy wersje j?zykowe: niemieck?, polsk? i angielsk?. W tomie przedstawione s? plany, mapy i zdj?cia dokumentuj?ce rozwój miasta.
